BASTAIN SCHWEINTEIGER RETIRES FROM INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL

Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has announced his retirement from international football after making 120 appearances for Germany.

The 31-year-old is one of his country's most capped players and featured in five games for Die Mannschaft at Euro 2016 as they reached the semi-finals before losing out to hosts France.

Schweinsteiger, who made his debut for the national team in 2004, won one World Cup title as Joachim Low's men beat Argentina in the final in 2014, after finishing third in 2006 and 2010. He also picked up a silver medal from Euro 2008.

And the Manchester United midfielder has published a statement declaring that his time with the German national team has come to an end.

"I have recently asked the coach to not nominate me for the national team anymore because I would like to retire," he wrote.

"I was allowed to collect 120 caps for my country and I lived some moments which have been indescribably beautiful and successful.

"Jogi Low knew how much Euro 2016 in France meant to me because I really wanted to win that title we have not been able to win since 1996.

"It was not meant to be, I have to accept that.

"By winning the World Cup in 2014 we achieved something on a historic and emotional level that I cannot reproduce in my career.

"That's why it is right and reasonable to finish it and to wish the team all the best for the qualifiication for the 2018 World Cup.

"With this decision I leave the national team that has always been a precious family for me. I hope that the connection will still remain strong in one way or the other.

IBRAHIMOVIC TO MAKE MANCHESTER UNITED DEBUT

Nomination for 2106 Nigeria Sports Award begins -By Jacob Ajom Organisers of the annual Nigerian Sports Award have called on Nigerians to nominate individuals and teams for the 19 categories as nominations for the 2016 edition opened Tuesday.

  Addressing sports journalists in Lagos Tuesday day, Chairman of the Award Committee, Ikeddy Isiguzo explained that only categories where excellent performances were recorded would be given award. “This is a very important aspect of the entire process,

 Isiguzo said, pointing out that except an athlete or a team were nominated, no matter the exploit of such an athlete, the committee cannot, on its own reward such performances with an award.

 That is why I urge you, indeed, all Nigerians to nominate sports men and women of their choice for each category. Categories where there is no excellent performance, there will be no awards,”

 he declared. Executive Directorr of Unmissable Incentives Limited, Kayode Idowu informed that there are 19 categories in this year’s edition. Nominations of potential award winners will end on September 23.

 The award ceremony comes up on December 2, 2016 at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victria Island. Idowu noted that Nigerian Sports Award has built for itself a reputation of a credible and respectable award set up to recognize and reward outstanding performances by Nigerian Athletes.

 ‘’We are very excited and planning to ensure that the 5th edition of the Nigerian Sports Award which is an anniversary edition is better than the past four editions not only about the award night event but also in all aspects of the awards from nominations, participation and attendance by the nominees ”

SUNDERLAND CONFIRM DAVID MOYES AS THEIR NEW MANAGER

Sunderland confirm David moyes as their new manager- Sunderland confirm David Moyes as their new manager after Sam Allardyce's departure to take England job after Roy Hodgson resign following England poor performance in euro2016.

Moyes has signed a four-year deal at the Stadium of Light, with the role his first in the Premier League since being sacked by Manchester United in April 2014.

"I have taken over a big British club, with a great support, and I'm looking forward to working in the Premier League again," said Moyes.

Sunderland chairman Ellis Short said Moyes was "first choice" to take control of the Black Cats.“We are absolutely delighted to welcome David Moyes to Sunderland, who was by far and away our first choice," chairman Ellis Short said.

“He is a man whose football pedigree speaks for itself and is someone I have long admired. I have spoken with him on many occasions and I have always been hugely impressed.

"He was my number one managerial target for the last five appointments, but his desire to honour existing contracts meant we were not able to bring him to Sunderland previously. To be able to finally welcome him as our manager is fantastic news for the club. 

“The fact that David has committed to a four-year deal is a clear demonstration of his belief in what he can achieve here.

"It is our aim to become a better, stronger and more stable football club and with a manager of David’s calibre and experience at the helm, we have a fantastic opportunity to begin looking upwards, rather than downwards every season”. 

The Scot has been out of work since being sacked by Spanish club Real Sociedad in November.Allardyce was confirmed as Roy Hodgson's successor with the national team on Friday.

MAN UTD AGREES A WORLD RECORD FEE TO SIGN POGBA

Manchester united have agreed with Juventus officials to sign the french international Paul Pogba for a world record fee of €110m.

The deal have overshadow a fee paid to sign Gareth Bale from Tottenham spurs years back by Real Madrid.

Officials from the Premier League club met with their Juventus counterparts earlier on Wednesday to discuss a deal to bring Pogba back to Old Trafford.

It is now understood that United have settled on a fee of €110m for Pogba, which overshadow the previous record set when Real Madrid paid to Tottenham to sign for Gareth Bale €100min in 2013.

Is now reported that Pogba will now pen 5years contract at the club he left  when he was lacking first team under sir Alex Ferguson.

The midfielder is said to be ready to accept a €13m annual salary at Old Trafford, which would almost treble the wages he is currently earning at Juventus.

The likes of Real madrod have being in a bid to land the french international but left out of the race because of prices issues but is now clear that Manchester united and Juventus have agreed a world record fee making him the highest world record transfer fee player ever.

United have already added Eric Bailly, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to their squad, with Mourinho keen to get this world class midfielder as soon as possible.

Manchester united will look officially to announcing the deal in the next 24 hours.

UEFA Shortlist 10 men for Europe award as Ronaldo and Grizemann makes list- European football's governing body has released a 10-man shortlist for the prize including Gareth Bale and Lionel Messi, while Will Grigg was voted in the top 25
Cristiano Ronaldo and Antoine Griezmann have both been named in a 10-man shortlist for UEFA's Best Player in Europe award.

European football's governing body released the list on Monday, with Ronaldo the early favorite to win the award after playing a very important  role in both Portugal's Euro 2016 triumph in France and Real Madrid winning the Champions League in Milan.

Griezmann, who finished as the top goalscorer at the Euros after scoring six times to help France reach the final, is also in the running alongside Wales talisman Gareth Bale and last year's winner Lionel Messi.

Riyad Mahrez, Jamie Vardy and N'Golo Kante - who all played key roles in Leicester City's remarkable Premier League title win - missed the final 10 but made the top 20, while Wigan Athletic and Northern Ireland striker Will Grigg was a shock inclusion in the top 25.

Grigg secured the same amount of votes as Juventus and France star Paul Pogba and more than Manchester City ace Kevin De Bruyne and Kevin Gameiro - who fired Sevilla to a third straight Europa League triumph.

 Zalatan Ibrahimovic has not yet arrived at Manchester United and we are seeing how royally he has been treated so far by the club.

First the striker was given an extended break and now it seems pretty clear that he will be wearing his favorite Number 9 Jersey which previously belonged to Anthony Martial.
